About the Recipe

The Gladiator Soup is a shield in a bowl — lentils provide plant protein and fiber, turmeric and ginger reduce inflammation, and bone broth or veggie broth rebuilds the gut. This is a meal that restores savages for tomorrow’s battle.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lentils (rinsed)

  • 3 carrots, diced

  • 2 celery stalks, diced

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder (or fresh root)

  • 6 cups low-sodium vegetable or bone broth

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish

  • Salt + pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Heat olive oil in a pot. Add onion, garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté until softened.

  2. Stir in ginger and turmeric, cooking until fragrant.

  3. Add lentils and broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer for 30 minutes.

  4. Finish with lemon juice, salt, pepper. Garnish with herbs before serving.
