Your Excuses Are Lying
Updated: 5 days ago
Morning, Beasts.
New around here? I'm Richard, a SalesBEAST coach, a New Yorker who traded snow shovels for a Florida boat ramp, and the guy who would rather fix your outboard than listen to it sputter. Jayne and I take turns showing up on Mondays, and today I drew excuse patrol.
Your excuses are liars
Here's the reality nobody wants to face, my friend: your excuses are lying to you. Every single one of them.
You say you want more out of life, but your alarm clock beats you every morning.
You say you want to get in shape, but the delivery app has your address memorized.
You say you want freedom, but you keep scrolling, swiping, and snoozing your shot.
Excuses are poison dressed up as comfort. They whisper, "You can do it later," while they quietly bury you under mediocrity.
Drip by drip
Here's the kicker. Excuses don't take you down all at once. They do it drip by drip. Day by day. Missed opportunity by missed opportunity. Until one day you look back and realize you didn't live. You stalled.
I see it on the water all the time. A guy lets his motor cough for a whole season. "It's fine, it still starts." Then one afternoon it doesn't, and he's three miles out paddling with a cooler lid. That motor didn't die that day. It died a little every time he said "later."
Don't negotiate
Now listen. I know life is hard. Some days the excuse feels like the truth because you're genuinely worn out. I get it. But my problem is with the excuse, not with you. You're bigger than it.
Beasts don't negotiate with excuses. They put them in a headlock and grind forward anyway. Prove you'll outwork the boredom. Prove you'll outlast the discomfort. Prove you'll outhustle that small voice begging you to stay safe.
Jayne puts it better than I ever could. She'll look at you, totally calm, and ask, "Is that a reason or a story?" Then she just waits. She never yells. She doesn't have to. That one quiet question has ended more excuses than every pep talk I've ever given, and believe me, I've given a lot of pep talks.
The map: kill one excuse today
Name it. Write down the excuse you used most this week, word for word.
Cross examine it. Ask Jayne's question: is that a reason or a story?
Shrink the task. Cut the thing you've been avoiding down to a ten minute version.
Do it before noon. No meetings with yourself about it. Just do the ten minutes.
Log the win. Write it down so tomorrow you have proof you are not your excuses.
Right now is the deal
There's no magic tomorrow coming to rescue you. There's only right now, and right now is asking for effort.
So let me ask you straight: do your actions show hunger, or are you a hostage to your excuses?
Before you go
Tap the heart if this landed. Share it with the friend who's been "starting Monday" for six Mondays straight. And follow SalesBEAST so you never miss a Monday from Jayne or me.
If "no time to cook" is on your excuse list, Jayne already shot that one down with quick, real food anybody can pull off. Visit Jayne's Kitchen
Drop it in the comments: "My excuses don't speak for me." Then tell us which one you're taking out today.
That's Beast Mode.
Richard
