Beast Mode Monday: You Got an Extra Hour. What Did You Do With It?
Morning, Beasts.
If you are new here, hi. I'm Jayne. I'm a coach and trainer with SalesBEAST, I write to you from sunny Florida, and I'm the one behind the recipes in From Jayne's Kitchen. I run, I do yoga, and I dance any time a song gives me half a reason. I believe in one simple idea: healthy body, healthy mind. I won't yell at you. I don't yell. But I will ask you good questions, and I'll expect honest answers.
You should also know about Richard. Some Mondays you'll hear from me, some Mondays you'll hear from him, and on the really good weeks, you get both of us. Richard is the coach everybody wishes they had: big heart, straight talk, and a plan for everything. When he tells you he's in your corner, he means it, and he'll stay there until the job is done. He's also the only person I know who can talk fishing and closing ratios in the same breath and make both sound exciting. He's my coworker, my game day sparring partner, and one of my favorite people on the planet. You're going to like him.
A quiet moment
This past week, the Star Trek family lost two of its stars. Walter Koenig, Ensign Chekov on the original series, passed at 90. Sir Patrick Stewart, Captain Jean Luc Picard to a whole generation of fans, passed at 86. Two men who spent decades showing up for their craft and for the people who loved their work. Thank you both. Rest well.
What a week in Florida
Halloween had my street full of tiny pirates, glowing fairies, and one very confident dinosaur who took two handfuls of candy and looked me dead in the eye while doing it. I respected it. Closing skills start young.
Florida sports gave everybody something to talk about, too. The Jaguars put up 42 on the Colts. The Bucs shut out the Falcons, 16 to nothing. The Heat won twice, including a 145 point night against the Pacers. The Panthers beat Winnipeg twice in four days, and the Lightning and the Magic each picked up a win.
The biggest story in baseball ended right here at home. The Rays made it all the way to the World Series, and the Brewers closed it out in five games in St. Petersburg. Congratulations, Milwaukee. Rays fans, what a ride. On the college side, the top ranked Hurricanes held off North Carolina, 38 to 35, while the Gators had a tough afternoon against Georgia. And the upset of the weekend? USC knocked off second ranked Ohio State, 30 to 18. Proof that rankings don't play the game. People do.
So why isn't Richard here this week? Between you and me, I think he's sulking. Richard is New York through and through, and his Rangers dropped both games this week while the Jets came up short against the Raiders on Sunday. Never mind that his Bills crushed Baltimore 36 to 10. He'll be the first to remind you Buffalo is the only real New York football team anyway. Give him a week. I'm hoping he's over it by next Monday, and if he isn't, I'll show up with a breakfast burrito and a pep talk.
And before anybody says it, yes, my Dolphins lost too. They battled New England at home on Sunday and came up short, 24 to 19. Tough one. Congratulations to the Patriots.
Here is what pros do after a loss like that. They don't sulk. (Are you reading this, Richard?) They watch the film. So before this week gets going, I want you to watch yours. Not the highlight reel. The whole game. The call you didn't make. The workout you skipped. The lunch that came through a drive thru window.
You got a free hour. Where did it go?
Early Sunday, the clocks fell back and every one of you got a free hour. Nobody scheduled it. Nobody earned it. It just showed up.
So I have one question, and I'd like an honest answer. Where did it go?
Here is what that hour proves. Time was never your problem. For months you've been saying I don't have time to make the calls. I don't have time to work out. I don't have time to eat anything decent. Then a free hour lands in your lap, and it quietly disappears into the couch, the phone, and a second cup of coffee.
That isn't a time problem. That's a decision problem. And I like decision problems, because you're the one who gets to decide.
The mirror
Let me hold up a mirror for a second. The hour you're looking for already exists. It's the scroll before bed. It's the drive with nothing on but noise. It's the thirty minutes you spend getting ready to get started. You don't need a new hour. You need to stop donating the one you have.
The plan
Find your hour. Not a new one. The one already hiding in your day.
Give it one job before lunch. Ten calls. A workout. Prepping food so Wednesday doesn't turn into drive thru night. One job, not five.
Protect it like a client meeting. Put it on the calendar. When somebody asks for that time, you're booked. Because you are. You're booked with yourself.
And if last week got away from you, that's okay. Truly. Everybody has a lousy week. It just doesn't get a vote on this one. Every Monday is a clean scoreboard, and you are one decision away from moving.
Here's the part I want you to sit with. Nobody gets more time. Not the CEO, not the top producer, not the person you quietly compare yourself to. Everybody gets 168 hours this week. The difference between people who build something and people who stall is what they did with the hours nobody was watching.
An hour is a small thing. A life is just a long string of small hours, stacked one on top of another. Stack them on purpose.
The clock fell back. You don't have to.
From Jayne's Kitchen: real food, five minutes, zero excuses
Now, about that Halloween candy. No judgment here. I ate the peanut butter cups. A few fun size bars never wrecked anybody. A whole week of drive thru on top of them is a different story. So this week, I'm taking your favorite excuse right off the table.
Every recipe below was built to beat no time. One microwave. About five minutes, start to finish. No stove, no sink full of pans, no culinary degree required. Just real food you can grab at any grocery store on the way home: eggs, beans, rotisserie chicken, salmon, and vegetables, with lower sodium broth and beans where it counts. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all covered, so there's no meal left to blame. If you can press start on a microwave, you can eat like you have your life together this week.
And here's my trade for the candy: make one of these for lunch, then spend the time you saved on a brisk walk around the block. Fresh air, clear head, better afternoon.
This week's lineup
The Closer's Egg Mug. Crack, stir, microwave, done. Fluffy eggs with spinach, cherry tomatoes, and feta, cooked right in your mug. Breakfast is served before your inbox finishes loading.
Monday Huddle Burrito. Eggs, black beans, melty cheddar, and salsa rolled into a warm whole wheat tortilla. Wrap it in foil, grab your keys, and eat it on the way to your first meeting. Your new Monday ritual.
The Follow Up Bowl. Brown rice, black beans, rotisserie chicken, salsa, and avocado, stacked in one bowl. It looks like takeout, and it's ready before the delivery app even loads.
Rainmaker Zoodle Soup. Low sodium broth, rotisserie chicken, zucchini noodles, and spinach, steaming hot in about four minutes. A warm bowl that makes a long desk day feel a little shorter.
Pitch Perfect Lemon Salmon. A salmon fillet steamed over baby spinach with lemon and dill, all in one covered dish. Restaurant look, five minute effort, one dish to wash.

And I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm gathering my favorites into the very first SalesBEAST cookbook from Jayne's Kitchen. It's coming soon, and the people reading these Monday posts will be the first to hear about it. So stay close.
Now. What can you do with the next sixty minutes? Not someday. Right now.
Before you go
If this got you thinking, do three quick things for me. Like it by tapping the heart below. Share it with one person who needs a push this week. And follow SalesBEAST so you never miss a Monday. Every week you get a new message from me or Richard, sometimes both, and a new five minute pick from my kitchen.
Then drop a comment and tell me what your free hour bought you. I read every one. And if you've got a few words of encouragement for a certain Rangers fan, leave those too. He'll pretend he doesn't need them.
That's Beast Mode. See you next Monday.
Jayne
