Even Oncologists Get Cancer
Updated: 1 day ago
Morning, Beasts.
I'm Richard, a coach here at SalesBEAST. I'm usually the one telling fishing stories, but not today. Jayne and I take turns showing up for you on Mondays, and some Mondays call for something heavier. This is one of them.
A sobering truth
Even oncologists get cancer.
Let that sink in, my friend. The expert. The professional. The one who knows every warning sign and every treatment path. Still blindsided by the very thing they trained their whole life to fight.
That's life. It isn't neat. It isn't fair. And it doesn't ask permission.
You can do everything right. Prepare. Train hard. Serve people well. Lead with integrity. Show up early, stay late, sacrifice comfort for the dream. And life can still flip the table without warning.
The deal that collapses. The diagnosis. The betrayal. The storm.
What you do after the plan falls apart
That's the moment that tests who you really are. Success isn't measured by how well you planned. It's measured by what you do after the plan falls apart.
You don't throw your hands up and ask, “Why me?” You square your shoulders and say, “Try me.”
You don't shrink under pressure. You sharpen under it. You don't collapse. You recalibrate. You don't wallow. You work. And you rise, with more purpose and more clarity, because you know something others forget:
Even when it's not your fault, it's still your fight.
I've coached people through some of the worst seasons of their lives. Not one of them got to choose the storm. Every one of them got to choose the next step. That's the only part that was ever in their hands, and it turned out to be enough.
Your step by step plan when life hits
Stop and name what happened, out loud or on paper. You can't fight what you won't look at.
Separate what you can control from what you can't. Write two short lists.
Let yourself feel it. Rising isn't pretending you aren't hurt.
Choose one action from the control list for today. Just one.
Tell one person you trust what you're carrying. You weren't built to carry it alone.
Tomorrow, do it again. One controllable step, every day, until the ground feels solid again.
This world isn't fair, but you don't need it to be. You just need to be focused, steady, and faithful to the mission, no matter what hits. Stop waiting for things to feel right. They won't. But you can still move right through them. And if everything is falling apart, then this is the time to rebuild stronger.
My friend Jayne puts it with a quiet wisdom I've always admired: the storm doesn't get a vote on who you become.
Before you go
If this spoke to you, tap the heart. Share it with someone who is carrying something heavy right now and needs to know they're not alone, and follow SalesBEAST so you never miss a Monday from me or Jayne.

If you're willing, share in the comments the one step you're taking this week, even if it's small. Especially if it's small.
That's Beast Mode.
