Merry Christmas, Beasts.
It's Richard and Jayne, writing this one together. Most weeks you get one of us. Tonight you get both, because some things are better said side by side.
The pause at midnight
Richard here first. The clock strikes twelve and the world exhales. Streetlights glow, houses go quiet, and for one moment the race pauses. I've spent a lot of years chasing numbers, and I've learned that this pause is where you hear what actually matters.
Start with gratitude
Jayne here. Breathe it in. Feel grateful for the people who carried you this year. Give yourself some grace for the lessons that toughened you up. And let a steady little fire start for what's ahead.
Tonight, hold your family a little closer. If you're far from home, call someone who loves you. Or be that call for someone who needs it.
Remember the night shift
Richard again. Somewhere tonight a nurse is pulling a double, a firefighter is on call, and an officer is driving a quiet street so the rest of us can sleep. A quick thank you goes further than you think. If you see one of them this week, say it.
Why we run
We'll sprint soon enough. But at midnight, we remember why we run.
We run for love, for purpose, and for the promise that the best chapters are still unwritten. Rest your mind. Unload the weight. Let kindness be the last thing you do tonight and the first thing you do tomorrow.
Looking ahead
Jayne one more time. When the new year comes, we're going to turn belief into proof. Before then, give yourself this simple assignment.
Write down one thing you learned this year that you'll carry forward.
Write down one person you want to thank, and thank them before New Year's Day.
Write down one goal for the first ninety days of 2026. Just one. Make it specific.
