Finish Friday With One Promise Kept
Happy Friday, Beasts.
If we haven't met yet, I'm Richard, one of the coaches here at SalesBEAST. New York guy at heart, Florida guy by choice, and happiest on the water with a rod in my hand and nowhere to be. Jayne or I kick off your week every Monday, and every so often one of us sneaks in on another day when something needs saying. Today is one of those days. Fair warning: Jayne is the brains of this outfit. I just bring the fishing stories.
The week is almost over. The scoreboard isn't.
Here is the hard truth about Friday afternoon. Most people wrote this week off somewhere around Wednesday lunch. The calls they meant to make got pushed to next week. The follow up they promised a prospect is sitting in a drafts folder. The thing they swore on Monday morning was the one that mattered quietly turned into a someday.
I'm not here to beat you up about it, my friend. Life is hard. Weeks get away from all of us. I've had weeks where the motor quit, the weather turned, and the best I could do was get the boat back to the dock in one piece.
But here is what I learned on those days. You don't have to save the whole week. You only have to keep one promise.
Why one promise changes your weekend
Walk into Saturday with a promise broken and you carry it with you. It sits in the back of your head at the cookout, at the ballgame, at the dinner table. It whispers that you're the kind of person who says things and doesn't do them.
Walk into Saturday with one promise kept, even a small one, and you carry something different. Proof. Proof that your word still means something to the most important buyer you will ever sell to, which is you.
People buy you before they buy anything you sell. And the first buyer is the one in the mirror. If that person doesn't believe you'll follow through, nobody else will either.
Here's how we work it, step by step
Pick one. Look back at what you told yourself on Monday. Not all of it. One thing. The call, the follow up, the proposal, the conversation you've been dodging.
Shrink it until it fits. You have a few hours, not a few days. If the promise was to build the whole pipeline, the Friday version is to book one meeting. Make it small enough that no excuse is left standing.
Write it down. On paper, where you can see it. A promise in your head is a wish. A promise on paper is a commitment.
Do it before anything else. No email first. No scrolling first. Pick your spot and cast.
Cross it off and say it out loud. I'm serious. Say "Done." Let your own ears hear you keep your word.
Write Monday's first promise before you leave. One line. That way Monday morning you aren't deciding, you're executing.
The biggest fish I ever landed came on a cast I almost didn't make. I was tired, the light was going, and I told myself one more. That one more made the whole trip. Your one more might be the call that makes your month.
Fuel up for the weekend
Friday nights have a way of turning into drive thru nights. Jayne has a fix for that, and I'm not just saying so because she'd raise one eyebrow at me if I didn't. Her recipes use real grocery store food and most of them come together in about five minutes. Grab something for tonight.
